The East's Big Chill Continues to Delay Bay Area Air Travel

If you're going to, or through, Chicago, Boston or New York, call the airline first.

Continuing frigid temperatures in the Midwest and on the East Coast are resulting in more flight cancellations and delays at Bay Area airports today.

As of midday, there had been 19 canceled arrivals and departures at San Francisco International Airport, duty manager Dan Dinnocenti said.

Those flights are primarily going to or coming from airports in Chicago, Boston and New York, he said.

Two flights to Chicago were canceled at Mineta San Jose International Airport today, airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said.

Those cancellations were an American Airlines flight that was scheduled to depart for Chicago O'Hare International Airport at 7:25 a.m. and a Southwest Airlines flight headed to Chicago Midway International Airport with a departure time of 2 p.m., Barnes said.

There are also delays to other flights that range from 15 to 90 minutes, she said.

At Oakland International Airport, there were six canceled arrivals and six canceled departures, airport spokesman Scott Wintner said. He recommends that anyone with an upcoming flight check their airline's website for updates.
