State, Bay Area Gas Prices Drop by Double Digits

Average gas prices across the Bay Area dropped by double digits at the beginning of June compared to prices a month ago, according to the AAA, which monitors the rates.

Bay Area motorists can expect to pay $4.02 per gallon on average, compared to $4.32 in mid-May, AAA said. But in Redwood City, drivers can avoid the $4.00 per gallon charges at multiple gas stations. There are 17 stations that offer prices below $4.00, with , on Woodside Road and Horgan Avenue, two stations on Woodside Road and Hudson Street and Woodside Road and Sequoia Avenue, offering the lowest regular gas prices at $3.71 per gallon.

The average price across the state is $3.94, down 32 cents from a month ago but up 96 cents from this time in 2010.

California has the sixth-highest gas prices in the country with only Alaska, Hawaii, Connecticut, Illinois and New York ranking above it, AAA said.

The most expensive gas in the Bay Area as of Tuesday afternoon was found in San Francisco at $4.07 per gallon, according to AAA.

Gas in San Mateo and San Rafael was at $4.02 per gallon and $4.01 per gallon, respectively.

Gas in Oakland and Pleasanton was at $3.98 per gallon, and at $3.95 per gallon in Santa Rosa.

Prices in Monterey and San Jose were $3.92 per gallon, while Vallejo clocked in at $3.88 per gallon.
