Local Tech Titans Donate Millions in 2012

One Redwood City company made the top 10 list - find out who that was, plus which other Bay Area moguls were generous in 2012.


Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a splash in December when he gave a half-billion dollars worth of stock to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation (the exact figure is $498.8 million).

But did you hear about Larry Page? The co-founder of Google also gave away an astounding amount of stock last year, valued at $185.6 million.

Redwood City company Oracle's CEO, Larry Ellison, was also a generous guy in 2012, giving away a whopping $45.4 million.

Compiled by Equilar and reported this week by The Wall Street Journal, the following list names the Top 10 most generous tech moguls in terms of total donations made to charitable and nonprofit causes in 2012. Most of the donors who made the list live on the Peninsula.

All told, the top 10 givers donated just under $1.5 billion worth of stock to charity in 2012. All declined comment.
