Friday: Live Nativity Opens, Holiday Lighted Boat Show, and More

Staying locally for the pre-Christmas weekend? Here are a few fun local events for you.

If you're staying local this weekend, there are plenty of ways to get into the holiday spirit in Redwood City and Woodside.

LIVE NATIVITY DISPLAY OPENS AT TAPESTRY CHURCH

Where: Tapestry Church, 1305 Middlefield Road, Redwood City.

When: This Friday through Sunday, Dec. 21-23, 6-9:30 p.m.

What: People from far and wide have been coming to Tapestry Church each year for 20 years during the pre-Christmas weekend to see one of the Bay Area's most amazing live nativity scenes.

BETHLEHEM A.D. is a living re-creation of the village of Bethlehem on the night of the first Christmas.  Walk through the village, interacting with the colorfully-costumed towns people who are cooking over fires, creating pottery, buying and selling items in the market place, and giving account of themselves to the census taker.  Visitors can observe and mingle with Roman centurions on horseback while sages and scholars discussing scripture at the synagogue, wonder about the news that the Messiah has been born.  Children especially love seeing the live sheep, camels, llamas, Brahma bulls, and donkeys wandering through the village.  If you are careful, you might even spot the Three Wise men as they carry their gifts in search of the newborn King. Free refreshments will be served.

LIGHTED BOATS ON PARADE

Where: Port of Redwood City, 675 Seaport Blvd., Redwood City

When: This Friday, Dec. 21 at 5:45 p.m.

What: For something really festive and different, check out the Sequoia Yacht Club's Lighted Boat Parade on Friday evening at the Port of Redwood City. This is part of a holiday-themed boat lighting/decorating contest being coordinated by the Sequoia Yacht Club, and the entries are being judged this week. Friday night at about 5:45 p.m., participating boats will be taking a spin around the harbor, fully decorated and lit up for the holidays. It should be quite a sight!

The best viewing spots are from the public fishing pier and adjacent waterfront access areas, and parking is available in the Port Marina parking lot. To get there, take Seaport Boulevard, and turn left at Seaport Court. You'll also see lots of lit up and decorated boats docked in the marina there.

So why do you keep voting for bigger Government? Seems the consumers have solved the problemRead More without "It's" help.

I agree, the public has the right to know what they are eating. It is absurd to be purchasing foodRead More that contains GMOs and not be able to know it is in the food.... why the secret if it is so safe??? I will not shop at any food stores that refuse to provide the public with information on what I am eating or serving to the people I care about. Trader Joes and Whole Foods have my loyalty for having the courage to stand up against the big guys and set an example by doing what is right for the consumer and not folding to pressure from Monsanto, Dupont and the other corporate giants that could care less about our safety and only care about how much money they can rake in.
