Killer Flu Around the Bay; “Knockout Game” Arrives in Bay Area; So Does Justin Bieber

Plus, Marin Coaches in the Super Bowl and High School Goes on Lockdown.

People are dying of the flu around the Bay Area, and Patch readers have been checking coverage all day to learn more about the disease and how they can prevent it. In addition, the deadly “knockout game” has come to Los Gatos, and a Half Moon Bay high school is on lockdown after a carjacker was found nearby.

"There is a 200 percent increase in the number of flu tests that are positive as compared to the same time in 2012," said Dr. Karen Relucio, Assistant Health Officer for the San Mateo County Health Dept. 

Relucio confirmed that within San Mateo County, one woman in her 40s has died from the flu, and six others are hospitalized in intensive care units.  The woman's death is one of nine confirmed fatal infections of the flu throughout the Bay Area this season.
