"People from across the state are mobilizing to Chowchilla to protest the unconstitutional overcrowding in California's women prisons and jails to show support for loved ones inside who are struggling to survive as the conditions worsen," CURB's statement read.

"We are gathering in Redwood City to highlight the similarly deplorable conditions endured by the people locked up in the San Mateo County Jail system, and to protest the Board of Supervisor’s $180-million jail expansion project that will cage more of our loved ones and siphon resources from programs that ensure socioeconomic justice and that truly keep our communities safe," it said.

The statement called for additional support from people in the community to join them in showing that "not only are we witnessing this discrimination and abuse, but we will not be silent."

The rally will take place at 2 p.m. at the San Mateo County Jail, 1590 Maple St. in Redwood City.
